Reflecting on an Unforgettable Experience at That’s Voiceover! Career Expo and the Voice Arts Awards

As a voiceover artist, the majority of my time is spent in the cozy confines of my recording booth, crafting characters, delivering compelling reads, and bringing scripts to life. While I love the work, it’s always refreshing to step out of the booth and immerse myself in the vibrant world of our industry. Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to attend the That’s Voiceover! Career Expo in Los Angeles, CA, followed by the prestigious Voice Arts Awards at the Beverly Hilton. To say it was an unforgettable experience would be an understatement.

A Nomination to Remember

This year, I was honored to be nominated for “Outstanding Commercial Demo – Best Voiceover” at the Voice Arts Awards. Let me tell you, seeing my name listed among some of the most talented individuals in the industry was a surreal and deeply humbling experience. While I didn’t come home with the win, simply being nominated felt like a victory in itself. It’s a recognition that helps legitimize one’s place in this ever-competitive field and serves as a powerful reminder of how far I’ve come in my journey.

The outpouring of support from my peers was truly heartwarming. So many people took the time to offer kind words, reassuring me that a win is only a matter of time. In a field where we often work alone, it’s hard to feel like a loser when you’re surrounded by a community that lifts you up and celebrates your achievements with genuine enthusiasm.

Connections, Camaraderie, and Community

The That’s Voiceover! Career Expo was an absolute whirlwind of inspiration and connection. From meeting my peers to shaking hands, sharing hugs, and even enjoying meals together, the camaraderie was infectious. Voiceover can be an isolating profession, so the chance to connect with fellow artists in person was a much-needed change of pace.

Whether swapping stories about studio setups, trading tips on vocal warm-ups, or simply sharing a laugh, these interactions reminded me why I fell in love with this industry in the first place. It’s not just about the work we do but about the incredible people who make up this vibrant community.

Looking Ahead with Motivation

This experience has left me more motivated than ever. While awards don’t define a career, there’s something undeniably special about having your hard work acknowledged on such a grand stage. I plan to return to That’s Voiceover! and the Voice Arts Awards in the future, continuing to grow, refine my craft, and hopefully, one day, hear my name called as a winner.

For now, I’ll carry this experience with me as a reminder of why I do what I do. Every script, every audition, every session is a step forward in this incredible journey. And if there’s one thing this past week has taught me, it’s that the destination is important, but so is the joy of the ride.

Here’s to the next chapter, the next opportunity, and the unwavering drive to be the best I can be. Hope to see you next year, That’s Voiceover!
