About a week after learning that Neptune Shield had received a 2026 AVA Digital Gold Award, something happened that I never saw coming.

Another project I had the privilege of voicing received recognition.

This time, it was a 32nd Annual Communicator Award.

To be honest, I had to stop for a minute and let it sink in.

Two award-winning projects.

Two completely different productions.

Less than 1 month apart.

If you had told me back in 2017 that this would one day be part of my story, I would have smiled politely and assumed you had the wrong Jerry.

Back then, I wasn’t thinking about awards.

I was thinking about how to become good enough.

How to sound more believable.

How to compete with people who had been doing this for decades.

How to build a career that could actually support my family.

Awards felt like something that happened to other people.

What I’ve learned over the years is that awards are never the goal.

The work is.

Every coaching session.

Every workshop.

Every demo revision.

Every audition that went nowhere.

Every booking.

Every rejection.

Every late night spent editing audio.

Every early morning marketing email.

Every conversation with mentors who challenged me to be better.

None of those moments felt glamorous.

But they all mattered.

Looking back now, I realize that success rarely shows up all at once.

It shows up quietly.

It looks like getting a little better today than you were yesterday.

It looks like staying committed when nobody is watching.

It looks like believing in yourself long before there is any evidence that you should.

The awards are wonderful.

I am incredibly grateful for them.

But what they really represent is years of consistent effort.

That is the part I hope people see.

If you’re chasing a dream in voiceover, or in any creative field, don’t spend all your energy wondering when recognition will come.

Spend it becoming the kind of professional who is ready when the opportunity arrives.

The recognition may come.

It may not.

You cannot control that.

What you can control is whether you’re improving.

Whether you’re learning.

Whether you’re showing up.

Whether you’re doing the work.

Because one day you might find yourself looking back at the version of you who was just getting started…

…and realize that they would never believe where you are today.

And that’s a pretty incredible feeling.
