Choosing Connection at VO Atlanta 2026

I came back from VO Atlanta 2026 energized, inspired, and very busy. So if this reflection is arriving a little later than expected, that is the reason. This year felt different for me. Not because the event itself was different, but because I made a clear choice before I arrived.

I chose connection.

A Different Approach to VO Atlanta

If you know how I usually approach VO Atlanta, that may sound like a shift. In past years, I have focused heavily on X-Sessions. They have always been a major priority for me. I still believe they offer tremendous value for voice actors who want focused training. But this year, I stepped back from that approach. Instead of filling every hour with structured sessions, I made room for conversations. I attended breakout sessions. I listened to panels. I tried to be more present with the people around me.

It was the right call.

Why Connection Matters in Voiceover

There is something powerful about being in a room with more than a thousand people who understand this craft, this business, and this unique voiceover journey. You can learn a lot from a class. You can learn a lot from a coaching session. But there is another kind of learning that happens in the hallway, over dinner, between sessions, or during a quick conversation you did not expect to have.

That was the part I leaned into this year.

The panels mattered.
The sessions mattered.
The coaching opportunities mattered.

But the conversations stayed with me.

Voiceover Can Feel Isolated

One thing I appreciate about VO Atlanta is that it reminds me this work does not have to be as isolated as it sometimes feels. So much of voiceover happens alone. You are in a booth, behind a microphone, in front of a screen, trying to make strong choices and deliver your best work. Then you attend an event like VO Atlanta and remember that many people are walking a similar path. They are dealing with similar challenges. They are chasing similar goals. They are also trying to build something meaningful. It is different when you are in the room.

Grateful for the People Behind the Event

I saw many familiar faces this year, but not everyone I hoped to see. With this many talented people in one place, it is almost impossible to catch everyone. If you were there and we missed each other, please know I tried. Connection was the goal, but the weekend moves fast.

I also want to acknowledge the work that goes into making an industry event like this happen. J. Michael Collins, Anna Alcasas-Collins, and the entire VO Atlanta support crew deserve a lot of credit for creating a space where voice actors can learn, grow, connect, and leave feeling encouraged. That is no small thing.

Looking Ahead to VO Atlanta 2027

Looking back, I am grateful that I allowed myself to experience VO Atlanta 2026 differently. I did not just go there to collect information. I went there to be present. I went there to listen. I went there to reconnect with people I respect, meet new people, and remind myself why this voiceover community matters. And yes, I am already looking forward to VO Atlanta 2027. Not because I expect every conference to change everything overnight. That is not how this business works. But sometimes being around the right people, in the right environment, at the right time, gives you exactly the reset you needed.
