Ok..so right off the bat, this has nothing to do with VO, except for the fact that I guess this space can double as a “research facility” for a little voice work, as I am a HUGE movie buff, and in fact, movies are how I seek to blow off steam. I need the ability to decompress sometimes (don’t we all), and my preferred way to do this is in the form of escaping the reality of the stresses of real life, and diving into the world of cinema! I have ABSOLUTELY no problem with heading off to an AMC, by myself, and hitting a movie to relax and get back on track. On occasion, I’ve become so stressed by my day job in IT, that I will take the occasional long lunch to hit a movie, clear my head, and then return to work (I’m salaried, and don’t punch a clock, so when I do this, I make sure I just push later into the evening to make up any hours missed!).
Well, now that we’re going through this pandemic thanks to COVID, running off to the local AMC is no longer an option. I thought I’d lose my mind! My main form of decompression and escapism had just abruptly been taken away from me!
So, what did I do?
I FINALLY kicked off a project that was almost 10 years in the making; the construction of my home movie theater! I had a ton of ideas, but not the tools or know-how to pull this off, so I hired a contractor, and this 2-man team, after almost 5 months of hard work, finally pulled it all together! I couldn’t be more thrilled! There are still some things I’d like to tweak/add/modify, as time goes on…but this was a big spend, so I’ll take my time with any add-ons! As mentioned before, not VO related, but let’s just say I’ll do my fair share of VO (character voice) research in here, as well as some acting research as I may look to venture into the world of on-screen stuff as well…one day!
In any case, here’s my new theater, in all it’s glory, as featured on YouTube:
