2022 was a year full of ups and downs for me. Not having my dad with us as we entered a new year was a tough experience. However, I was excited to film my first movie, Marvel’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’. The filming experience was fantastic, but I faced a setback when I was let go from the final scene after a photo incident. Despite this, I was able to work on three more movies for Netflix and Apple. The first movie after GotGVol3 was ‘A Family Affair’, starring Zac Efron, Nicole Kidman, and Joey King. The seond movie was ‘The Electric State’, putting me back in a movie with Chris Pratt, and this time Millie Bobby Brown. The final movie of the year for me was ‘The Family Plan’, starring Mark Wahlberg and Michelle Monaghan. I am beyond relieved to still be acting!
As I juggled my full-time job and my voiceover business, I became concerned about job security this year. Layoffs were happening at many big tech companies, including my own. After 22 years with my employer, I couldn’t help but wonder if my position was secure. If I lost my job, how would I take care of my family? I’ve long considered making voiceover work my full-time career but I’d need more time to establish myself.
I’m still grateful for my job, but I know that losing it could be devastating. With that in mind, I polished my resume and created a new one specific to my voiceover work. I see voiceover and acting as legitimate career paths for me, but I need to keep my full-time job to ensure my family’s security.
As the holiday season approaches, my thoughts are with my colleagues who have lost their jobs and I wish them and their families well. Here’s hoping for a safe, healthy, and prosperous 2023 for us all.
